Hon. Leland Stanford.

Another time death's angel darkling has been here
Another form has bowed beneath the sod.
Another soul been summoned to appear
Before the bar of our Almighty God

A purer soul ne'er soared to meet its God
A nobler heart was never chilled by death.
Than when he meekly bowed beneath the sod
And yielded up the last faint fleeting breath

Wide in our midst his death has left a void.
A bleak unfilled and solitary space,
Of ties dissevered and of hopes destroyed,
say I Can we ever fill that vacant place?
