I had proposed writ-
ing to you to-day. I had
been thinking of you
for several days & won-
dering whether you had
ever received a little
package of ch. Science
books that I had send
you before you left Wash-
ington & an address
you had asked me
for - But Oh!
Now - Oh! With what
deep & tender sympa-
thy my dear friend I
have been thinking of

[Right page]

you - I who know [as]
well the anguish
of your poor heart
- how well I know
it all - notwith-
standing that I can
live above all I feel
by living out of my
self there are times
when like an ava-
lanche my sorrow
in the mortal thought
comes over me -
but it is only for
a moment -
hush it - I say no
