My sympathies [go] out to you. I only wish that it were in my power to personally do something to help you I have not forgotten myself a lovely girl in New York City and of the many kindnesses of yourself and husband at that

Boulder Creek June 28th/93

Mrs Leland Stanford Menlo Park Cal.

Dear Madam,

Accept in this your hour of deepest sorrow, the profound sympathies of a Methodist Minister - who has for years admired the life and work of your illustrious husband. May God sustain you!

In harmony with Mr. Stanfords great spirit to enlighten and elevate the generations to be. I have desired to perpetuate his memory and emulate his example, though in an humble way in this place

Now with your gracious counsel - and help the work can be wrought.

It is this to dedicate, on the part of his friends, a Public Library and Reading-room, to his memory, in the town of Boulder - an extra prize begun already in a general way

The R.R. Co. has donated the lot and and we have the most desirable location in town.

As financial agent I will send you one of our subscription papers. We have here one gentleman who says he will place $500. worth of books in the Library at once, on completion of building -

The property is to be owned and conducted by a corporation of ladies - And I believe in the providence of God it will be a mighty factor for good in our midst. Hoping to hear from you soon I am Respectfully, S. E. Crowe, M. E. Pastor over
