May our precious Lord and Savior, sustain and comfort you, in this terrible desolation From my heart of hearts, I sympathise with you, my very dear Friend, I wish I could tell you with a loving embrace

how deeply I grieve for your great sorrow

Yet my dear friend, you cannot mourn as do the desolate ones witho[ut] hope, for you have so much to comfort you, in the beautiful record of your good and great Husband[s] noble life.

But you know all this, a thousand times better than my words can express it. Senator Stanford and you his loyal companion have won an imperishable record in the world's history for your magnificent

beneficence, your large heartedness, your warm-heartedness and your profound sympathy for the need of humanity. And in the unity of your married life, you gave such a fine example, and, did so much to hold in honor domestic life. For all this and more, the nation loves you as well as your ever admiring and devoted friend
