I send to you, my deepest Sorrow, on behalve, of your best Friend," in this world. your departed Husband Leland Stanford" Since, my Departed Husband, whoe left this world one year, and a halv ago, I do picture that sad Scene before me, and in thoughts, thought of you, at the Sad hand' the Same Sicknes, as Mr Stanford, my Husband was also taken away

And my Seven Children to morn [sic] his Loss,

My dear dear Mrs Stanford,

Tho' weeks have past since you suffered a grief, that the instant I heard of it, my heart and soul were with you in sympathetic sorrow, and tho' time and again I have tried to write to you, tears have staid me. I could not
