My Dear Madam:

When intelligence of the death of
Senator Stanford reached me, my heart prompted
me to send you a line expressing my profound
sympathy with you in your sorrow, and my sense
of the loss to California and the nation. The
remembrance of my early acquaintance
with him, and of many acts of courtesy
and kindness on his part, imparted an element
of tenderness to my regret on account of the
death of the most generous benefactor of our
times. God will sustain and comfort
you now, and no good thing that He hath
promised to them that trust Him will be
withheld from you - this is the conviction
and prayer of

Yours Very Truly

O.P. Fitzgerald
