ter of a school-teacher, who is
hard-working, but unfortunate.
It will take a little amount to
purchase my wardrobe.
I don't wish any thing in my
wardrobe elaborate. I wish it
nice, yet plain & simple.
So, if you would kindly send
me some of your discarded
dresses, that I may make over for
my self, I should indeed deem
it a great favor conferred from
a great lady to an unknown,
poor, yet earnest school-girl.
I have read much, also heard
much of your many deeds of
benevelonce [sic] of your being such
a charitable woman, especially
in educational interests; other-
wise I should not have address-
ed you thus. I am sixteen

years old & fair complected.
Earnestly hoping you will
grant my humble request,
I am, dear lady,
Very sincerely yours
