years of acquaintance with Mr Stanford with a pleasure that is free from any shadow whatever. He was a man always brave, candid, true and generous, large minded and large hearted, a great example of right living to all who met him, and a sayer of good words & a doer of good deeds for thousands who never grasped his hand or saw his kindly face. His memory will be blessed. Mrs Edmunds & Mary join me in affectionate regards and all good wishes for you, while I am always Faithfully Yours

My dear Mrs. Stanford

Mr Edmunds has written you today and has sent our united messages of sympathy, but I cannot be quite satisfied without writing you a few words myself. Our delightful visit has made me realize as I could not otherwise have done what your bereavment and loneliness must be after such tender and constant thought and care, as you have given to your dear Husband

and after such united association as you have had in the great work, which has filled both your hearts. To continue it without him must be very hard & almost overpowering.

Still it will be a great blessing to you to have your hands so filled in your lonliness, for you must know so well how to carry out his wishes as well as your own

It must be also a most pleasant thought that he so entirely believed in your power to carry out

your united wishes. You must feel that you have still much to live for, altho' you are under the deep shadow of His King.

I am very glad that we were able to see you together in your beautiful home. It was a day never to be forgotten. May the dear father in whom you have such trust, go with you always in all your cares, and give you peace.

Affectionately yours Susan M. Edmunds

"Is it not sweet to think ^hereafter When the spirit leaves this sphere Love with deathless wing shall waft her To those she long hath mourned for here? Hearts from which twas death to sever Eyes this world can ne'er restore, There, as warm as bright as ever Shall meet us and be lost no more"

I wish I was your child and could come and cheer you you. Then my little ones would climb on Grandma's knee and with their sweet smiles and childish ^prattle make your sad heart glad.
