I suppose you have
entirely forgotten me but
my husband I am sure
you remember and John
Geforst's name was never
that of a stranger to Mr
Stanford.

I could not write
you when your boy was
taken away:- I remember
him when he was a
tiny child and sorrow
had never come to either
of us, and as I looked
at my own boy, it seemed
too deep a grief for me
to trespass on,- and then
you had your husband
to share it all with you,
- (I was already alone with
my little son and daughter)

But now that he
has gone from you,- I
want to tell you how
from our quiet home
I have watched all these
years, his unselfish noble
and upright career, his
unceasing benefactions, and
most of all have I watched
the progress of the great
memorial to your dear
boy, and how I have grieved
with you that you are left
standing alone to go on
with his work and to
fulfil all his wishes to
the end.

I will not weary
you with more words,
but will you not accept
my most sincere and
earnest sympathy.

Perhaps, some day you
may write me a line
to tell me that my
letter was acceptable to
you, and that in your
far away and beautiful
home, you feel that

I am very sincerely your
friend Anna M Geforst
