Enoree Plantation SC
June 26th 1893

Mrs Leland Stanford

Dear Madam

I
cannot refrain from expressing
to you my sincere regret that
your good husband is no more.
While I never met him I was
drawn to him by his speeches
in the United States Senate on
the financial question, I have
several of them which he kindly
sent me. He is a great loss to
the country but a gain to
Heaven - May the Father bless
and comfort you is the sincere
wish of an unknown friend

very truly
