is the history of Senator Leland Stanford. It is through his wisdom, more than any other man that California retained her sisterhood among the galaxy of States in the Union, and made possible her present greatness.

There is no one that ever learned to know the Governor, but loved him,

There were none greater in mind nor more of noble heart.

Please accept my condolance and believe me most respectfully in sympathy.

Dear Mrs. Senator Leland Stanford

Words of sympathy seem to be inexpressible and but poor consolation to offer in the hour of deep sorrow, while weeping over the loss of a beloved and honored husband, - yet while we cannot lift the weight from your afflicted heart, alow us to condole with you.

It needs no eulogy to give praise to your esteemed and noble hearted husband.
