nominated and elected have turned my attention to the transactions of the several Congresses, since. Mr Monroes last message of December 1823 can give the names of all the Millionaires in Eastern & Western Hemispheres, from A Stephen Girard, down to A Leland Stanford. My memory for 70 years warrants me in saying the World has never met so great a loss, as the death of Leland Stanford has caused, yet the two glorified spirits, who now see clearly, that their loved one has wonderful executive talent, and will superintend, and well carry out their wishes in the care and continuance of doing all the good she can with their Herculean Estate.

your Husband, to a seat in the Paradise of our Heavenly Father, where he so joyously met & embraces his loved son, "They are not dead, but Keepeth" When you shall have done with the Herculean cares connected with your enormous estate, and life's cares over, your joy in meeting your loved ones, will be unbounded, I have much to be thankful for, atlthough my financial affairs were almost ruined by fire and building up a country village and heavily losing thereby, yet I have one of the best wives now in the 56th year of our union, and all our children who will not see us want, and I am also thankful I can work and earn my living - shall want but little, and that, but a little while Please keep up the best of spirits.

very Cordially yours Robert Mathes

Dear Mrs Stanford try and comfort in the thought how blessed it must have been to thus calmly pass into Eternal rest. and will there greet your much loved son who had gone before, and together they will await the coming of their loved wife and mother.

Your loving heart cannot but feel keenly your great loss and miss the dear presence of Him - whom you have been accustomed to see daily for so many years, and feel

the void thus made in your home life.

And the noble work which he has planned for the benefit of coming generations will live long in the hearts of the people.

May the Good Father of us all, in time bring you resignation and consolation to your afflicted heart.

Mr Meeks joins in kindest sympathy.

with love Yours Truly.

Washington Meeks -

My dear Mrs Stanford,

We were greatly surprised and pained on hearing of the passing away from this life of your devoted and loving husband, Mr Stanford.

Our hearts went out to you in this great affliction, and could not refrain from writing a few lines to you, well knowing how vain are words under such a bereavement as yours, and more often open anew the wound than console.

you company, but as I am so far away from you I can only say that my whole heart is with you, and that I have prayed hard for you.

I sincerely hope that you health is good and that your life will be blessed with all your friends love and comfort to you.

With love I remain sincerely yours
