Madam.

My son, Cyrus
R. Miller, has sent to me, for
preservation in our vault, your
kind letter written to him at
Annapolis in June last. That
letter will be treasured in the family
for many years. In it you have
honored greatly both him and his
parents by your kind words.

Therefore do not
doubt the sincerity of our condolence
which I tender you on your bereave-
-ment.

For several years past I
have openly spoken of Governor
Stanford and Rev. Phillipp Brooks
as the two great men of the times.
