Dear Madame,

Having seen in the Christian world that your husband, Senator Stanford has been taken home, I felt - as being one of your few relatives on his side, I should like to write you to express the great- sympathy we feel for you in this trial.

Your loss we know is his gain -but- still the loss is yours!

I know that only the few who when on earth wept as the holiest upon the anguish of those He loved. He alone can comfort you in this sore bereavement: In Job's great affliction he said in the 23rd chapter "God has hidden from him both on the right-hand & on the left but he goes on to say "He knoweth the way that I take" It shall be so & we know it is thus are we sure that altho sorrow may seem to hide Him for a time He will be with you all the way for He careth for you 1 Peter 5.7 When we have
