Dear Aunt Jennie:-

It was several days before
I heard of Uncle Leland's
death, as we are rather
isolated here, and Mr. Wells
was in New York City.

I cannot say in a letter,
anything that will lessen
so great a blow, but offer
deepest sympathy and love
to you, in your great sorrow.
I feel the loss much, as I
have always felt Uncle Le-
land to be more like my own
