As an old friend of Senator Stanford both in Washington and Frisco I would ask a favor of you of a loan of $2,000 to put in machinery for wagon factory I have not enough to fit [up?] the plant-length of my building is 66 + 59 feet 2 story sise [sic] of block 159 frontage 227 deep will give you security on same valued $5000. Can give our best buisness [sic] and Ministers as refferance [sic]. I live a true Christian life am not a crank but mean biusness [sic] hoping to hear from you

Honored Lady!
The undersigned, who is since 18 years Pastor of the German Evangelical Lutheran St Pauls congregation of the above named locality ( 17 miles north of Cincinnati) applies to your widely known charitableness and asks you for a little support, that his congregation may be enabled to pay off church debts at its approaching 50th anniversary. Our church debts amount to $2000, of which amount the one half has been loaned to build a house of worship, and the other to erect a personage. Our membership is small and the members are to a great deal poor, hardworking people. If we could realize to pay off this pressing debt and to make some necessary improvements on our church-property the congregation
