Dear Madam, Pardon me for taking the liberty of adressing these lines to you on be half of our Church, St. Paul's Eng. Luth of Chicago, Ill. As you see our church is an English Luth. Church. All its services are conducted in the English language. The majority of Lutherans are either German or Skandinavian and worship in these tongues. But their young people and children desire to worship God in the language of the land. Our church is largely made up of these young people and children. Our future therefore is glorious. We have the flower of the Church and land. But in the other respects our difficulties at present

become greater. Financially we have not the support we would otherwise have. However, within a year we have paid our whole bonded and otherwise-indebted ness $3400.00 Our ladies [?] Society also supported city lady missionary, who goes about assisting the poor, sick, and troubled. But the field is great. The demands so mani fold that we need another lady missionary. I have personally visited hundreds of homes inside of two weeks and have seen and heard the crying needs of this community. We realize that a lady can with her sympathy, love and gentleness carry brightness where a man cannot. But we lack means to support her. Pardon me therefore, if I appeal to you personally, knowing your generosity on behalf of the youth of our land. I know you have many calls upon your charity. But to whom shall we appeal if not to those whose hearts are touched to assist the young? Could you not spare a hundred dollars to help bring that glorious message of peace to some of the thousands of Chicago's young people? I send you a copy of
