Riverside, Calif. ,

Mrs J.L. Stanford;Dear Madame,

Please pardon me for writing a letter of this kind. I have been driven to it by illness, which caused me to loose [sic] all I had, and am left penniless and should be under a physicians care if I had the means.

My profession is civil engineering but am unable to work at it.

So I appeal to you with a prayer to God hoping to hear from you. Pardon me for asking this favor.

Respectfully yours Fred W Hartung, 844 Orange St,
