Kind miss learning of your great wealth through the news papers I have through great efort decided to try to arest your thought for one moment, and your earnest concideration. I have two little girls age six and eight that I would love to educate and bring up in good inteligent society. But owing to my financial disibility caused by sickness and death I am deprived of that privalege without some imediate asistance I will have to give up our home

the obligations I have to meet in febuary is only one hundred and sixty dollars with the above named some I would have a fighting chance to bring up my little gurls as is my harts desire. I do not ask that you should act without first investigations as regards the merits in my case you may write county audition of gibson co. in Regards Mortgages on our home which is $100.00 the balance $60.00 which I owe to S. - The complete figures of the attendance at Cornell University were given out by President Schurman today. Excluding the summer session, which was attended by 501 students, there are at present 2792 regularly enrolled students at Cornell as against 2456 last year. This unparalleled gain of 334 students in one year is straining to the utmost the capacity of the University classrooms and laboratories. The crowding is greatest in the Academic department, where there has been an increase of 73 students, and in the Engineering Departments, where the increase amounts to 163. There has been an increase of 21 in Law, 79 in Medicine, 10 in Veterinary Medicine, and 16 in Forestry. These 2792 students come from forty-two states and territories, and from Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Porto Rico, South America, Europe, Asia, and Australasia. Over 100 students come from each of New Jersey, Ohio, Illinois and over 200 from Pennsylvania. New York State furnishes 1679 students, or just three-fifths of the entire enrollment.

My last labour was night Poliece at Cornell universitty for over 10 years. It was at President Whites where I saw Mr Stanford when he came to see the president in regards to building the Leland stanford university But little did I think then that I would be in the condition that I am now. But we can not tell to day what tomorrow may be Mrs Stanford if you can assist me in some way and wish to be beter informed

You may think it strange of receiving a letter from a stranger but sickness compels me to ask a favor from one who can lend a helping hand to those in nead. Once I was a healthy man and worked to save and got a good start but was stricken with neuraliga of the face and head comonley caled [Tic douloureux]. I hav had 6 operations in my head face and toung by the best nerve Dr in the [world] Dr Weir S. Mitchel of Philadelphia Pa. I hav not been abel to earn any thing in over eight years as I [dare ?] not get out in the air or walk to far the nerves
