Dear Madam,
Permit me to tender my sincere congratulations to you and the students of the late Senator's Great School. In my position as Supt. of Public Instruction, I necessarily meet many people interested in education. I have travelled in this State since March '95 nearly 17,000 miles, and have met personally some 6000 teachers. I have listened to strangers talking on the trains and in hotels, and have frequently heard the great suit discussed. The object I have in giving this information concerning myself, is to assure you that I know whereof I speak when I say the people of California have sympathized with you in your late anxiety

and rejoice with you now that the highest court in the land has confirmed your late husband's gift to the girls and boys of America. May God long spare you to watch over, guide and direct the able faculty in whose hands now rest the destiny of Leland Stanford, Junior, University! Dear Mrs Stanford I have been away, and have not been able to read the little book you gave me until now. It is called "Finding the Christ in Ourselves." It is written by H. Emilie Cady. It is published as one of a series, by the Unity Book Company, Kansas City & I think it can be bought at the Unity headquarters cor Port & Stockton [Sauckland?] It is a beautiful inspiration
