Your very kind, and substantial letter, came safely to hand. A little delay in answering, as I was just in the midst of moving, you will notice the change of address.
To tell you that I was greatly and happily surprised, with your letter, is only a small part of what I would express, and knowing that your generous gift will be of so much assistance to us, yet your kind words, are even of more value to me! and I shall hope to meet you some future time and express with my looks and words, what I cannot write. 2 this is secret, until Thursday next, the time of our regular meeting, when I shall read your letter, hand in the amount sent, that I know will receive a hearty applause, with heartfelt thanks and a "God bless you" from all, after which, they will acknowledge the same to you.
It is not an easy tast, to fill the office of Pres. in an Order of this kind just starting, and I had thought of many weary days in connection with it, especially in raising funds, as we are determined, to make the lives of our Engineers and families, a little brighter, and happier, if possible, and build for them a standing, that we know they deserve.
How this will lighten the burdens and help all, you cannot know.
But I do hope and trust, that you will

The wives, of the Engineers, of San Francisco Division 161, Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, have formed, an Auxiliary Division.
Holding in greatful remembrance, the many favors received by the Engineers from Gov. Stanford, in years gone by, and highly appreciating, and admiring, the noble part you have taken, in charitable work, we have selected for the name of our Society, "Mrs Leland Stanford" Div. No 105 - Grand International Auxiliary, to the B. of L.E.
That you may fully understand the objects of our Order, we send you, a copy of the Constitution and ByLaws.
