tion and hope to raise my percentage. Last Feb'y the ex. in Local Geog. of S.F. was a surprise to me and being a non-resident, was not as well posted as I[t] might have been. I stood number three upon the list of eligibles from the Ex. Since then another Ex. has taken place.
Again I wish to thank you sincerely for your aid, for which I scarcely dared to hope, and I shall ever remain grateful for the kindness and interest you have manifested in my cause.
As you have been so kind, I shall take the liberty of letting you know the result of my examination
which takes place within a few weeks.

I dont know if you have yet received the photo of Judge Deady but some one told me that there were plenty of his photos to be had
here - and I suppose it would be so with the other Mrs J. L. Brown No doubt Mr Gage could get them for me as he got all the others when we needed them. Time goes so fast, that I feel that the summer will soon slip by.

Dear Mrs Stanford.
We have just returned from del Monte which I think is a most lovely place. Saw Mrs Miller who told me she had heard from you.
Mrs Catherwood wrote me, and said it was quite important that I should have the

feared you would be ill. It has occurred to me dear Mrs Stanford that it might possibly be agreeable for you to let me copy your Bonnat portrait, down to the knees, in the place of the portrait I made of you in Washington. It would make a handsome picture and save you the sitting for an other portrait, and Mr Stanford having liked this Bonnat

If you think well of this suggestion it would be necessary to telegraph to Washington to get the size of the canvas of your portrait there on account of fitting the frame.
