Dear Madame
Miss Berner sent me the inscription you wanted to be written on the mosaic picture on the front facade of Church. We made a lot of trials, but find it is absolutely impossible to succeed because there are too many words. The letters would be so small that I consider quite useless to put them because nobody will be able to read them. I therefore must ask you either to select a verse with a few words or to abandon any writing there- because I can assure you that the expression of Christ- whose figure is quite finished--tells the meaning of Mathew's verse just the same. I have written to Miss Berner that the inscription cannot be put on the two sides because it would be cut by the trees & mountains, the space occupied by the gold ground is too small to allow so many words to be written -
I therefore have to beg of you to let it go or to send me by return of mail another ver[se]

but short, in order to allow the letters to be big & to be read from the neeths I mean from the ground
Our most dear Mrs Stanford kindly allow me and Mrs Camerino to send you our sin cerest wishes for a happy Christmas & new Year which we earnestly hope you will pass in the best of health & spirits -
With sincere compliments Respectfully Yours M Camerino

Dear Miss
Your kind letter Nov.15th to hand and I have disposed the inscription. Come ye blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, Mathew XXV verse 34, to be put in front of the steps where our Lord is standing blessing the people -
I thought to have the inscription written round the two sides to the vertex, but the trees & the chaines of mountains cut the line - and in order to be read from the neeth - the best situation is to have the inscription written in front of the steps.
This letter will reach you I expect about Christmas. Allow me please to present to you & to your dear Family my [?] wishes & may God make you always happy as your [?]
With sincerely compliments Very truly yours M Camerino

You desired me to in my nightly prayers, and I sincerely trust that God will always guard you. My husband has shown me the photo gravures of the University, they are charming, how much more so the reality I know that when all the actual work in hand will be finished next year, my husband will prepare for starting for S. Francisco. As also in the meantime his engagements with the Company, will happily be at an end, & as much as I shall regret our parting for some time
I must think of all the pleasures it will give him to see places all the works for which he has devoted his time for over two years, & I shall always cherish the hope of his returning with some orders, which we trust will further his fortune, is his starting again in business for himself. You will, I am sure be pleased with his new ideas, also of the mosaic floors, which no doubt will be very much appreciated by architects
