Monterey Feb. 17- 92 Mrs J. L. Stanford Dear Madam I received your very kind letter of the 7th inst. I am much pleased to hear of the good health yourself and your husband enjoy, may the Lord keep both of you so well for the good of the children of California. I thank you for the appreciation you have of those little momentos of the poor mission indians. In regard of you asking my humble prayers in behalf of you and your worthy husband, I will say, that I have already done so, and will do it with the help of God, for your charity some to my church. I have offered Holy Mass at different times for the repose of the soul of your beloved son. R. I. P. as even the holiest of Christians have to suffer some time in Purgatory before they enter into heaven, as the holy fathers and doctors of the Church generally teach. And as he lived an innocent life and received the grace of Catholic Baptism, I consider it my duty to intercede for him in the prayers of the holy sacrifice of Mass as we do pray every day for the living and the dead. Please give my best regards to Mr Stanford and you believe me yours in X A D Casanova

Dear Madame I will act according to your suggestions and will see what I can find best in San Jose, and if needed I will go to San Francisco.
I have in my possession some photographs of Fr Junipero just according to your idea, in his Franciscan robes preaching to the indians and a cross in his hand; this will help the sculptor to form the point of history, we wish to be perpetuated in the monument to be erected by your charity.
