The enclosed reached me to day. I am surprised that such a state of affairs exists and no effort made to remidie [sic] it. For clean good water should be kept in the cask. Will you kindly investigate it, and oblige,
Yours most sincerely Jane L. Stanford

Dr. Jordan Dear Sir
The enclosed article came to my notice this morning and I write at once to let you know that the summer school to be held at Pacific Grove can not be called the Stanford Summer School. I do not wish to have the impression go forth that Stanford Univer-

sity is carrying on that Summer School. If the article is true, and Stanford Pro fessors are about to open this school they must call it by another name, - and I wish this news paper article con tradicted at once I [sic] has made me feel very badly that the name of Stanford should be used for a

purpose so entirely at variance with my husband's wishes.
Yours respectfully Jane L. Stanford
S. F. Cal Mch 22. 1898. It is an illigitimate and illegal use of the Stanford name which, I have never authorized and cannot

allow and I expect to be called by some other name.
The Professors if they charge do it for their own benefit but cannot attach Stanford [?] for such purposes
J.L. Stanford
