Charlie has not been to see yet I am writing anxiously to have a long talk with him he said he would come in before he left. Dear Jennie is there anything I can do for you. I am at your command if I make mistakes it is the head & not the heart — when you return I will meet you at any place if time wont permit you to come to Albany before you return to Washington Did I do right in having the notice of Anna's death put in the Journal. You have be[en] so in my heart while in Europe. that I desire to do all that [ I as ?] in my power — I hope we have [par?]

7 over the intense heat of this summer it has been fearful — with it all Mr Covert and I have kept well and I am all settled in domestic affairs expect a new girl the first of Sept I think [Jersan] regrets leaving me — but I would not keep her if I had to walk on one leg a friend of mine came in one evening and remarked " I expected to find you on flat your back " Mr Covert hearing it said you will never see her flattened

8 I expected Anna Kre would come to pay the last tribute of love to your sister A letter from her tells me she is sick with bowel complaint under the Dr's care — she & Hattie are in the mountains they both desired much love & sympathy to you. will write you — I trust you are better & Mr Stanford will return greatly helped Oh how I long to see you will look anxiously for Oct 5th Will go to the cemetery soon perhaps Sunday — that is the day I love to be with my friends not far away

{not far away freed from pain & sorrow —}

5 her any where well I think Charlie right in not having strangers have the last look — Friday morning, I was interrupted so many times Wednesday & yesterday with callers to know about Anna's sickness & death I laid this aside and then I knew it would not go before tomorrow. Mr Herves left yesterday morning for Boston. He spent Wednesday evening with us. seemed more like himself He expects to return an indefinite time I took He & Mrs Abbott through the "Lathrop Memorial" She was more than delighted said beautiful things about you

for you to have on the [car] home the Bartletts are now ripening fast — I feel sure the [Besj?le?] will hold as they are a later fruit. I have had a very quiet restful summer and feel as well as those who return this week to take up the duties of life Society & c c It has been more than hot Sacque & petticoat came to the rescue. I am a wonder to myself to myself what I get through I am in better health since since I commenced for some time. Mrs William Barnes called on me last Sunday to get your address said she would write you. I like her so much

{[1892]} Aug 28th Sunday morning My dear dear friend Jennie

Our church is closed to day for cleaning and as my thoughts are ever with you in your sorrow and loneliness felt to write you a line I intended to have gone to the Cemetery this afternoon but fear it will be very damp it has rained heavily the past few days decided to wait until the middle of the week. A friend of mine was in yesterday who had passed Anna's grave last Monday said there were palms in pots at the head & foot [an order left at monument]

seems impossible for me to [& wish] this letter so many calls I have just turned away Mary King Mrs Perry's friend came to hear of Anna's sickness, her death has surprised so many Will the cholera hurry you home there is much excitement in New York — every foreign letter is fumigated I am very anxious about you. Jennie thinks they make more of it than it really is I enclose a clipping from last night's Journal perhaps you know of it, Dr. Boyd sails tomorrow

for home I dont know why it is I have always wanted you to try him for your bowels He is so safe in his treatment with patients. I hope to see you very soon, if you dont come to Albany will surely go to N.Y — to meet you, cannot let you go to California without talking over the past few months. Our very warmest remembrance to Mr Stanford also Henry and Mrs Nash — Lovingly your old attached friend Dot

I am very anxious about your own health as you wrote me about the bowel trouble Mr Covert has had the same trouble camphor pills cured him if you remember I sent you a bottle some time ago— I wish you would see Dr Boyd. he is now in London. I feel sure he could help you He returns I hear the latter part of Sept I think he is the Dr of Ashburn — He did wonders for Mr. Covert last Winter when he was sick I thought of you all in search of health God grant it may be given the greatest gift to man and how little we prize it when we have it. Friday morning, [It]
