Heaven. Enclosed you will find
a letter written by my precious
one to my sister after the fearful
tragedy came into our lives.
And but a short time before
my awful bereavement. He too
had suffered as you have in
the loss of an only boy. I
want you to know him as
I knew him and as the world
knew him not. The letter tells
of the change of heart which
through his loss came to him.
On January 8 1890, could I have
drawn the curtain of the future
aside and have seen that
on January 25 1891, (fatal day) only
one short year my best beloved
would be summoned, I know
my strength would not have
been equal to the suffering
and reason would have fled.
"Oh blindness to the future kindly given
"Was Gods greatest gift to man
"That each may fill the circle marked by heaven
"Who sees with equal eye, as God of all,
"A hero perish, or a sparrow fall.
"Atoms or systems into ruin hurl'd,
"And now a bubble burst, and now a world
When trouble comes upon me again
and I know not which way to
turn I shall seek from the
"Imitation of Christ" help and
light. You may kindly return
my letter, for to me it is the
most dear and precious thing
I have from him. His dear hand
pened [sic] those lines when his heart
was crushed and bleeding. Hoping
that God will hear your prayers
for me, Believe me very sincerely yours,
Mrs. Annie G. Flint
