[left hand side] our condolence, and the shock of the news so upset me that I haven't had the heart since to write.

Ida my children and myself dearly loved Governor Stanford and he held in our affections a fatherly place. So long as any of us live, his picture with yours shall occupy a most honored place on the walls of our house.

I am unable [right hand side] to express in words the deep grief I have felt in the passing away of Senator Stanford, but, my dear Mrs Stanford, no greater sorrow has ever come to me except my own dear father's death. I know that my words can give but little consolation in your bereavement but I would bless a day that would bring an opportunity for me to show by actions
