incoming of the new administration, though many kind friends like Mr Childs, have urged him not to do so, still he realizes that there are hundreds of Democrats wishing for these positions, who deserve to have them, and being a Good Republican by birth as

well as on principle, he wishes to relieve the Democratic President of all embarassment, by sending to him, his resignation, by the 1st of March.
We think it a splendid thing for our Country and friends in Washington,

that Senator Stanford will at least remain there in the Senate, this winter, it would be sad for others, for him to resign, though we all realize what great interests he has, and what a noble and grand work both you and he have begun and indeed, almost accomplished.

Our whole Country realizes the great good you are both doing for mankind. I am happy to say, that we are all well here, and our Children are putting in a great deal of honest study this year. I think their beautiful superb watches are a Constant help to them.
