And young women to prepare themselves for a fair show in the
hard competition of this world This fixes your husband's
place indelibly in the worlds estimation. And the final
verdict will be that he was in many senses the very
foremost man of his generation. though it was a generation
which included some of the greatest names in history

From my obscure position in life it gives me great
pleasure to pay to him this humble tribute.

In your note to me regarding Palo Alto, the faulty sentiment
you express when you say you hope the day will be full of
sun shines to me, for to you it is the Eden of the world
is not equal to the reality, it is hard to find words to express
the beauty and grandeur of that spot.

We have two (what we think)
lovely boys two and twelve years old. It will be the dream of my
life to have them educated at Palo Alto. As for myself, I am
doing what I can in my restricted way to try to give my children
a fair education. And to take from my Mother and Wife
the petty cares which wear out the life of a woman as
the years begin to grow heavy

your Kindness to me and mine. I am
