EXECUTIVE MANSION, WASHINGTON

My Dear Mrs Stanford

I might perhaps to apologise for sending the letter to you to forward to Mr Elliott but I certainly forgot the fact I had the address & also feared that he might have already left the country; as he said he should do so soon. In referring to the letter I find that it is Marysville Yuba Co. c/o

Mr T. W. Johnson Manager of the Appeal-Pub. Co

I only obtained the letter because it was evidence to me of some good done & many are so sceptical of any good results from such efforts. Can I retain the letter? or if you desire it yourself it is at your disposal. I shall be so glad to see you again. & hope to have frequent visits from you. I also hope that both you & the Senator have returned
