be moved to tears. I in community with these children and honorable O. Seeraifaero [sic] ask you to have pity on us and help us, as you have helped so many poor and destitute. We, the missionaries are willing to undergo every hardship, if we can only save souls, redeemed by the precious blood of our Lord. We do not ask anything for ourselves, because we do not need much; it is for Jesus Christ's dearly beloved, we implore your help and assistance. We are contented, if we get only the most necessary things for us, being able to live from 4(?) dollars a month. About me you can, if you think it necessary, inquire at St. Beniface's Church 123 G. G. Ave, or at Rev. Fath. Montgomery, Chancellor of this Archdiocese, or at Rev. Clementin Deyman O.S.F. Orphan Asylum at Watsonville. Cal. Hoping to hear from you, Tremain
Honorable Lady
Yours devout servant Fath. Athanasius Goette O.S.F.
St. Joseph's Home. Park Hill Ave off Baker and Haight St. San Francisco. Cal.
P. S. After closing my letter I received the enclosed letters from China; my heart is broken. I most humbly ask you, dearest Madam, to help my poor brothers and other Fathers, and help our poor Orphans and Christians from starvation.
