San Francisco, Dec. 13, 1895
Col. C. F. Crocker,

City.
Dear Sir:
I return to you herewith agreement to be made between
J. H. Roberts and C. E. Hooper of the City of Sacramento, and the
Pacific Improvement Co., for the purchase of the 1800 shares of
capital stock of the Sacramento Transportation Co. It was agreed
and I supposed thoroughly understood by the principals of the P.
I. Co. that they should not enter into any new enterprises or
purchase any more property, and as representing Mrs. Stanford, Ex-
ecurtix [sic] of the Stanford Estate, and Director of the P. I. Co., I
herewith notify yourself and others interested in the P. I. Co.,
that I cannot and will not consent to the purchase of the said
stock. I supposed when you handed me these papers that it was
something pertaining to the Southern Pacific Co., but find it is
an agreement to be made by the P. I. Co.
I will mail a copy of this letter to Mrs. Stanford, who is now
in the East, and if she authorizes me to consent to the same I
will do so cheerfully.
Yours respectfully
Signed Chas. G. Lathrop
