Mrs. Stanford; Dear Friend;
Our celebrations are over, and we have settled down to make again a happy loyal and devoted community. And we all rejoice above all that the great strain is at last lifted from your shoulders and that you are free to do your husband's will and your own.
I have many pleasant telegrams and letters which I shall add to the greater number sent to you. I enclose two

kind letters which have just come in.
Saturday evening of this week is our "evening at home" to the Faculty people. Will it not be possible for you to be present for a short time at least, that you may meet them and receive their words of good will?
Mrs. Jordan joins me in the hope that you can come over - even though it be for a few minutes.
Faithfully yours,
Doavid S. Jordan.

Mrs. Jane L. Stanford,
Menlo Park, Cal.
Dear Madam:
I enclose herewith a copy of the request made to the County Superintendent for the formation of a new school district. I called on Judge Spencer this morning and with him went to see Superintendent Chipman. We arranged to have the consideration of the petition postponed for the present. If acted upon at all, however, it must be not later than the meeting of the Board of Supervisors which meets on April 5th. It is Judge Spencer's opinion that the separation of the University trust as an independent school district is decidedly for its advantage and for yours as well. In case this is done, I give you the assurance that nothing will be done by the voters in such school district except your fullest consent and approval. With this understanding it is much better to exist as a separate school district than to be subject to the vote of Mayfield and to have to pay for their schools and school houses.
Very truly yours, David S. Jordan [illegible].
