In so far as the facts relating to the campaign are concerned, the history is accurate, though lack of space would not permit of a very detailed account. But, fearing that in other statements, based on more or less reliable information, I may have been inaccurate, I have taken the liberty to ask if a copy of this article would be acceptable to you, and, if so, to ask, if I have committed any error, that be corrected therein.

In making my offer I feel that anything which bears on the history of the great institution to which you have given your all, is of interest to you. I am now writing an account

My dear Mrs Hopkins

This morning I saw in the paper the notice of the sad blow which has fallen upon Governor Stanford's family. I would wish, on the part of Mrs Kep and myself, to express our deep sympathy with the sufferers. We can imagine what a terrible affliction it must be - "the only son of his mother" - when he has just reached the age which made him a companion of his parents, and when, - as I have always heard - he had begun to develop such promising traits of character.
