Mrs. Leland Stanford

Dear Madam and Dear Friend if I may be allowed to call you so, for you are the one dear friend of this our glorious and golden state.

Allow me to congratulate you on the happy termination of your case in the Supreme Court of the United States. I shall ever pray for your success in the grand realization of your fondest hopes in regard to the future prosperity of Stanford University, also your personal happiness.

and most eighty nine years old.

He was a successful merchant in Sacramento in the early 50’s, but fortune has changed with him. His home is with me his only daughter, and altho I am a widow of very limited means, I am doing all I can to make his declining years comfortable, which at times seems rather difficult to accomplish.

But I have confidence that the Lord will provide. it may not be my way, but he will do what is right.

Wishing you all the comfort and happiness this world can afford, and the happiness of heaven in the sweet Bye and Bye where I hope we will meet - with all our loved ones, is the prayer of yours absent and unknown friend
