OFFICE OF
ESTATE OF LELAND STANFORD
AND
JANE L. STANFORD
819 MARKET STREET
San Francisco, Cal.

San Francisco, Nov. 19, 1901.
Dear Sister:-

Inclosed herewith you will please find estimates given by
4 carpenters who have figured on completing the Natural Sciences Bldg.,
which two other contractors have failed to do. You will notice that
A. T. Spence of Oakland is the lowest bidder his estimate being $22,400.
There is about $11,000 still due on the old contracts, therefore it
would make $11,000 more to complete the carpentering work on this
building.. I suppose when the work is completed you will have to commence
suit against the bondsman for the difference between 22,400 and $11,000
which is still held on the old contract. You can see by this that
Mr. Hodges was not very far out when he stated that Mr. Hurlburt if he
completed the work would lose money. Mr. Schulze informs me he will
draw up the contract with Mr. Spence and present it to you for your
signature and you can then talk this matter over with him.

Yours respectfully
Chas. G. Lathrop
