OFFICE OF
ESTATE OF LELAND STANFORD
AND
JANE L. STANFORD
819 MARKET STREET
San Francisco, Cal.

San Francisco, Dec. 11, 1901.

Dear Sister:-

Inclosed herewith please find copy of letter addressed to
Mr. Geo. E. Crothers asking him if it would be possible for him to procure
the necessary receipt asked for in your communication addressed to myself

Regarding the Mex. International Ry. 4% bonds due 1977 upon which interest
is paid March and September and which Mr. Hawley wishes an option
of 60 days on same would say, you are the owner of 133 bonds of $1000
each and 44 bonds of $500 each making a total of $155,000.00. The last
sale quoted in New York was July 29, 1901 at 90 5/8. The price quoted
is below their face value and bring you in more than 4% interest than
the price sold for in New York. You have paid a premium for Railroad
bonds that did not bring you in as much interest as the Mexican Int.
do at present. As I suggested yesterday afternoon, I would talk a
little to Mr. James Speyer regarding these bonds so that you may be able
to get some information, but I would not at any time intimate to him
that you are desirous of disposing of the same.

Your affectionate brother.
Chas. G. Lathrop
