I have sent you two letters, but do not believe you have received either of them: - but I feel prompted to tell you again, how of ten I have thought of you and of the happy days in Washington. Congress has been so dis-organized for some years & so averse to Tensions that they have told me nothing could be done. Now, there are a number of officers widows, in the same catagory with my self - some who need it even more, for I have a house over my head although according to law I have but one third in terest in it; - my dear husband having died without a will. But I murmur at nothing but have much to thank God for. I have

5) been in town all this hot summer - August has been intense & I feel the need of a sniff of fresh cool air & I am going out to Chevy Chase for a week, while I have some plumbing done in my house - I have been very well all summer for which I feel most grateful to Christian Science. My Dear Mrs Stanford
when I eceived your very sweet & kind letter I felt that I must write to you, as soon as you returned to California; but I have not heard of your return. Still I suppose you are, by this time, at your beautiful home & and that your Brother-in-law, in whome you were so interested, had a charming trip to Canada & has quite recovered. When ever I thought of you during the summer I sent you a "good thought". I remained nearly all the summer in Washington, in my dear home
