United States Senate,

Washington, D. C.

Jan 1, 1895

My dear Mrs Stanford.

I did not know
until this morning that a photograph of our
baby boy, Leland Stanford McCarthy, at one
year of age, had not been sent you. I regret
the oversight. Our Leland is doing remarkably
well and like the memory of our dear, the
original Senator Stanford, is a joy and a
loving delight to us.

Please accept our
heartiest wishes that 1895, will be a
happy year to you and yours.

As ever your humble servant

John B. McCarthy.

I passed 1701 K st. today. The stream of messenger
boys, as in the days passed, were not crowding in
there. I could not help but cry right out as I passed.
