Mrs. Leland Stanford,

Dear Madam:

The collection of your dear son has arrived at the museum. The man who packed it seems to think that you have placed him in charge of arranging the collection in the rooms provided for it. If it is still your intention to have it arranged just as it was in your city home, I am positive that no one can do that accurately save Mr. Brooks and myself, who took the exact measurements of every piece and its position on the wall. I do not wish to intrude myself upon this work, if you have placed it in other hands, but I have by my work with your son's collection been inspired with a reverence and love for his things and his work; which makes me wish very much to have them reproduced here exactly as they were there. Will you, therefore, please let me know your wishes in
