Dear Madame

So this will be the first Christmas in seventeen years that I will spent [sic]out of Washington. My thoughts naturally go back to the sweet memories of the past and in strong relief stands the last Christmas: The scene of the evening, two days before, that you dear Madame and the good kind Senator called the school Hall, the Christmas Trees, the dear Sisters (whom I love so much) were devising for the pleasure
