not divest myself of the feeling that he was with us there also - You certainly have a great deal to live for in carrying out this noble work - although it may look dark & dreary sometimes but there is light beyond.
Many thanks to you my friend for the enjoyment of this day - which will ever stand out by itself - & for the pass which has enabled us to see so much more of California than we otherwise would.

I regret exceedingly leaving California without seeing you again and believe me it has been one of the bright spots in life meeting you & renewing the old acquaintance of early years - for in seeing you it seems as though I had met Mr Stanford also & I wish it had been possible to have been here during his life.
