any solid food for 5 days while I've keep her nourished with milk of which she takes nearly a quart a day. Also a little mutton and chicken broth with one half pint champagne. But you know this does not make up for the terrible drain on her system.

The discharge is more and more every day and the odour very offensive. We have to change the bed sometimes thrice in the day and the pads very often. Mrs. Hewes suffers a good deal of pain and distress in the afternoon and early part

of the evening. But Dr Curtis comes every evening about five and gives her something to quiet her for the long dreary night. She still keeps up her great faith & confidence in Dr. Curtis and whatever he says. She will go by - Since Mrs. Hewes had the chill we have not been able to get her out in the Moorish room but try to keep her bedroom as well aired as we possibly can. She likes to have me with her constantly so I try and stay with her and help her in every way I can and if that is a little comfort to her I know you would wish me do that and all I possibly could

We were sorry to learn that you have been ill yourself I am afraid you have been overtaxing your strength in your anxiety for others. Sorry also to hear that you have been alone all this time without your brorthers & Mr. Nash They would have been such a comfort to you & lightened your load a little.
