Dear Mrs. Stanford,

My thoughts turn
so constantly toward
you that I must put
them into words. My
father and I felt
more than words can

of them now, these two
old friends as we saw
them last, that evening
in K Street. We might
have known that they
were refining, then
for a better world - ah -
even the heavenly country.
They spoke of death
with perfect calmness,
confidence, and assurance
that for them it could
be but a [?].
