My Dear Mrs Stanford

Mr J T Wilson handed me a short time since the inclosed [sic]
letters written to him by your darling boy in June 1879

These letters written when a child are so manly and thought-
ful, I know you will appreciate them as only a mother can

The season reminds me that Christmas is near, and how
lonely you will be, while your dear husband and darling boy are where
they can only speak to you through the language which loved Spirits
shisper [sic] to the hearts of those left behind

May your Christmas be happy in the thought that they are
waiting for you in a better world, and when your work is finished,
you will all again give Christmas greetings in a happier land

Eith [sic] my best wishes to you for all the blessings the world
can give,

Faithfully Your friend

(Signed) N T Smith.
