Mr Timothy Hopkins

Kind friend

Would you be so obliging as to find if it is possible to secure good State rooms on an outgoing Steamer for the 1st of October or the second week in Oct. I wrote to the White-Star office Liverpool for rooms on the Teutonic or Majestic for that time and they answer that every room such as they would want us to have has been engaged, but that many times rooms are given up and that is all we could hope for, of course it will not do for us trust to such luck - and it has ocurred [sic] to me, we might get rooms on one

of the best Cunarder's and if that fails try the City of New York or City of Paris Inman Line. You know what we need one for ourselves one for Henry and Mr Nash also berth for Caroline and for Edward ours in center of ship and on upper deck if possible. Mr Stanford is fixed on returning in October if it is the last of the month it might do if the first cannot be obtained--It ocurred [sic] to me to day we must be active to get rooms secured. The main office being in London and such a responsible applying for us as yourself might be more sucessful [sic] than having a letter reach the clerks - if you can get rooms and will send us a chart marked we would feel much obliged.

We start for Switzerland next Wednesday morning have been here these four weeks, we go for the bracing mountain air. Mr Stanford has had the cure by that time but Dr Blane would like Mr Stanford to build up now and realize what the cure has done for him, and visit Geneva, Bern Lucerne--and Battenberg on Lake Thun, pass the time quietly resting breathing in the mountain air - and about the 20th of Aug return here for four weeks, taking the second cure may do this with great benefit this is our program now. I think Mr Stanford is better and he has been wonderfully happy and contented, and is pleased with the place our quarters the Dr and the beautiful drives they are without end so varied and and so many.

I am glad that Mr Nash is improving my heart goes out to him I feel so sorry all his expectations were blasted, but he still can have his month

with his parents - Mr Stanford get along and as he has but few others he dictates to me sometimes and has written two letters himself to my brother Ariel - and oh, I need not worry Chas he is needed we both feel very sorry for him - tell him what I say about Mr. S. not needing him. My sister is no better and failing I fear, from the Cables I get she is on my heart and never off and I fear I may never see her again in this life. I am praying for strength to be brave and to be able to do my duty to all I love Tell dear May I am glad she is better and that Lydia keeps well. With our best wishes for all yours

HOTEL BEAU-RIVAGE GENEVE MAYER & KUNZ Monday July 18th 92 My dear friend Timothy Hopkins

I have a few moments before starting for Berne and I hasten to acknowledge your kind letter. We were surprised to hear Henry and Mr Nash were at London yet we had thought them at Paris, they forget how anxious we must be all the time - for we are not well although I think Mr Stanford is better - and we expect much from the after cure in the mountains. I am not well and we have been delayed by it here as I had to have a doctor again and now I am so eager to get away from the dampness and in the mountains. Mr Stanford does miss me so much to go out with him. I have been so worried by all that has come to us - and we have been very lonely. I am sorry they did not keep us better posted. Mr Stanford sent a check to Mr Nash last week Monday checking they would be at Notre Hospital Paris by Wednesday as they had stated and they have needed money I must say good bye as we are leaving soon-with thanks for all your kindness to us and to Mr Nash yours sincerely
