Brown. I had heard him
preach and did not con-
sider him a high class,
cultivated, spiritual man
such as was needed in
the Church. His answer
was that he was oblig-
ed to let Dr. Brown down
easy, and he would
keep him there for the
year. He is still
there, and receiving a
salary for delivering
lectures. All this
is wrong but I was
not able to combat
with it.

I do not want you
to feel from all I have
said here that I am
obstinately opposed to
all of Dr. Jordan's meth-
ods, but I have a
woman's sense of right
and wrong, and I have
not been associated so
closely heart and soul
with the internal work-
ings of the University
without knowing very
many things which
have caused my heart
to ache, which I have
accepted, but not
forgotten.
