doors might be patterned somewhat differently, they are severely plain, with only the three squares in each door - could not figures of Griffins or something in antique style - that would not cost any more than these which look somewhat like prison doors.

The Architects write that the interior color for pillars around the corridor should be light as possible almost white if possible to be in harmony with the marble wainscotting on lower floor and stairs - I would like if possible to have a pattern of the bronze railing for stairs The Architects the color for flooring can be decided

upon after I return this spring.

We went to N.Y. for a little rest and returned New Years Day, our season was not atall festive, but we felt a great sense of thankfulness to the Father of us all for his tender leading for better health for manifold blessings which has received from His hands all these { ?] days brings back the past so full of sweet memories connected with our precious son.

I have this evening received a letter from you which I will answer soon.

With very many thanks your friend Jane L. Stanford Jan 2nd/90 Washington D.C.

tomorrow and be absent a week. Will go to Albany and see little Jennie I suppose you have heard my Sister has gone to Egypt and will go up the Nile and Holy Land perhaps, before she turns her face homeward I am so pleased she is having all this sweet privellage [sic] come into her life. God has her in His Holy keeping and I trust Him and feel that these days are fraught with peace and christian love.

I cannot finish without expressing a little of what I have felt for your cherished and well beloved child I know how anxious she must always feel whenever you are ill, you are so closely { ?} together, the purest and best of love Mother and child love. God grant she may be spared the temporary parting of bodies in the flesh for many years to come but when it has to come I hope her eyes of faith will ever see you by her side aiding helping over the rough places in life - Oh! how I love the comfortor whom Jesus provided he would send for the thought instilled in my bleeding heart, with love ever for

both your friend Jane L. Stanford March 9th/90 Today Mr Stanford is 66 years old.

Sunday - Washington My dear friend Mrs Cooper

I am so sorry to hear you have been ill again, I had not heard of it until your own dear letter reached me. When I last saw you in S. F. I feared if you did not relax and rest from brain work you would break down. You must remember you are mortal and God demands care of body as well of soul. You are His instrument and He has work unfinished for you to do, there is no one to take your place in that world you breathe in. Let the young be aids to help, act under your advice

I really believe if you should be transplanted to the higher life you would still concentrate your influence for the good of needy ones here below but at the same time, the K-schools would not thrive as they now do, for you are the moving power in the great work. Do let up a little on hard work, at least for awhile I sent immediately for the book you named, in fact sent for two so that some good friend might have the benefit of it. I am very much interested in reading Swedenborg's book "The True Christian Religion." I expect you have read it. I am deeply interested in it Rev Dr Giles sermons led me to go deeper into the Religion of the New Church. I was surprised not long ago by having one of the society ladies of Washington ask

me if I had ever read Rev Dr Giles sermons and followed by telling how they had comforted her hungry soul. The good work of liberalizing souls from the thraldom of creeds and sects is going on, as the great discussion in the { ?} Church, as to revising their confession of faith has given evidence. You started it years ago, bore your cross and suffered for Christ's sake, you were ahead of the times but ever their God had this work to do through you. I shall be permitted to see you and know you in the better life. I hope and trust and shall rejoice to see you resplendent in a pure spotless robe the reward of the persecuted "for His Sake." I have had quite a severe attack of the Grippe, it came upon me very severly and closely confined me to room and bed for one week, in fact I am not yet over its effects and nearly two weeks have passed. The Dr advises me to go into another climate for awhile to rid myself of its after effects. We will go day after

own way will lift up their eyes toward the fountain of light - the Great Comforter. Give my love to Tim, a kiss for the dear child and love and kiss for yourself from your friend Jane L. Stanford

Jan My very dear friend

I cannot let a longer time elapse without writing and learning from yourself how your health is at present. I have heard frequently through Mr Nash, he through your friend Miss Miller, also I heard from your Mother that you were much improved and at your house again. I hope and pray that the good Father and healer will deal kindly with you, your precious child, and
