I return the enclosed
bill it is all right I had all
our family portraits and
other paintings taken from
the walls of our Sac(ramento)
house and sent here to be
placed in the museum. That
house now is empty of all we
held sacred and can be
sold without taking out
anything but the China
and Silver plate. I thought
another winter the state might
buy it for a Governor's
residence. I had Kelly
sent for to come to you to have
you ask him if he could lend
me money if you could get
